                                                       Strands of Lobelia--A Summer Hokkai

Strands of lobelia
sway in a puff of wind;
morning heat.

Cynthia

Morning heat--
the lingering presence
of a skunk.

Adelaide

Skunk scent
Along the path;
A pine grove.

Keith

A pine grove;
Amid the soft needles,
The crushed cone.

Donna

A crushed pine cone;
following deep foot prints
in the soft dirt.

Adelaide

The soft dirt
covered with broken twigs;
a passing storm.

Cynthia

A passing storm;
The leak becomes a drip
From the old barn's roof.

Donna

From the old barn's roof,
The tufts of an empty nest--
Dusk's growing shadows.

Keith

Dusk's growing shadows
mingle with the darkness of night;
the hoot of an owl.

Cynthia

The hoot of an owl
Mixed with cricket song;
A waxing moon.

Donna

A waxing moon
Hidden by branches;
Fireflies.

Keith

Fireflies--
the conversation flits
back and forth.

Adelaide
