                                              Hokkai--From Pine to Pine

Chickadees twittering
from pine to pine--
the first snow.

Wendy

The first snow--
Dusting the cobwebs
from the old sled.

Adelaide

From the old sled--
shrill cries of delight
ringing in the air.

Cynthia

Ringing in the air--
The old monk pulls the rope
One last time.

MaryJane

One last time
Is not enough to view--
The withered moor.

Gillena

The withered moor;
A clump of brown grass bends
In the wind.

Donna

In the wind,
fresh fallen snow blows
across the yard.

Ann

Across the yard,
tree shadows jumping
under a cold moon.

Adelaide

Under a cold moon
The still-bright lake shimmers--
Winter trees.

MaryJane

Winter trees;
a shadow's thinness across
the worn porch.

Wendy

The worn porch--
A creak as mandarins quack
Near the pond.

Gillena

The sun on the pond;
ducks swimming
in melted snow.

Adelaide

From melting snow,
Last fall's leaf tumbles
In a fresh breeze.

Donna

A fresh breeze;
the willow boughs turn
a brighter yellow.

Cynthia
